IR Scholars Honor Professor Robert J. Art
On April 11, Georgetown University was the site of an extraordinary gathering of leading scholars of international relations. The Mortara Center for International Studies and the BMW Center for German and European Studies co-sponsored a conference on "Realism and the Next U.S. President" to honor Professor Robert J. Art for his lasting contributions to the field of international security studies.
Art's contributions have spanned research, teaching, and policy.

Art’s contributions have spanned research, teaching, and policy. As befits his reputation among leading scholars, Art’s colleagues and co-authors who traveled to Georgetown to participate in the conference included the leading scholars in international relations and security studies: Kenneth Waltz, Stephen Walt, Stephen Van Evera, Risa Brooks, Robert Keohane, Robert Jervis, John Mearsheimer, Louise Richardson, Barry Posen, Chaim Kaufmann, and Robert Ross. These scholars focused their conference discussions on the state of knowledge and future dynamics of American power and the pursuit of U.S.national interests, addressing balance and unipolarity, terrorism, Iraq, the greater Middle East, and China. Dean Robert Gallucci conferred the SFS Dean’s Award on Professor Art in recognition of his lifetime contributions to American scholarship and policy on international security affairs.
