Government Class Breaks New Ground
Professor Charles King recently broke new ground at Georgetown by teaching his "Comparative Political Systems" course simultaneously to SFS students in Washington, DC and Doha, Qatar. Working with Shervin Makekzadeh, his Doha-based teaching assistant, King's lectures in Washington were broadcast live via videoconference to students on the SFS Qatar campus.

Classroom interaction was encouraged through the use of multiple cameras which allowed students at both locations to see each other and communicate as if they were in the same room. Over the course of the semester, students worked on group projects with students from their sister campus using the videoconferencing technology along with other web-based communication tools. During their respective spring breaks, each group was able to visit the other's campus to finally meet their counterparts in person.
