Ragnheidur Arnadottir '94

This spring, Ragnheiður Arnadottir ’94 was busy campaigning for a seat in the Icelandic Parliament. She was able to step away for a week, however, to attend the 2007 Georgetown Leadership Seminar (GLS). GLS is an annual event that brings together young public and private sector leaders from across the globe to Georgetown for seminars and discussions on major foreign policy issues.

Since graduating in 1994 from the Master’s of Science in Foreign Service program (MSFS) at SFS, “Ragga” has made her mark as a political advisor to the Icelandic Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs. Most recently, she was a political advisor to the Prime Minister of Iceland.

Ragga’s trip to GLS in April did not hinder her campaign—on the contrary, she was elected to parliament in May for a four-year term. “Attending the GLS this spring was both inspiring and stimulating. It was a great break from the campaign and helped me put domestic political issues into better perspective,” said Ragga.

Ragga credits her time in the MSFS program for her success today. “I would not be where I am now without that experience,” said Ragga. “The excellent education at Georgetown prepared me well for my work in government and gave me credibility, confidence and a good base to build my career on.”
